Mrs. Mom's Family

Let me introduce you to our family.
Our family consists of my husband, Mr. Dad, me, Mrs. Mom, our two daughters, Cupcake, 11, and Cake Pop, 16 months, and our cat, Pit Licker (nicknamed for her strange habit of trying to lick Mr. Dad's armpits), we've had her for about 10 years..
We began homeschooling in July 2011. Mr. Dad is our computer geek and article reader. I enjoy reading, sewing, and crocheting(which I just learned). Cupcake is currently in the 5th grade. She enjoys dancing, drawing, cooking, and learning about animals. Besides our cat, Pit Licker, we also have 2 mice, 11 fish, and 2 snails. Cupcake is supposed to take care of them all, but sometimes she forgets(it is a lot to remember, after all). She really enjoys learning about all animals, "except for stupid plankton" she says. She is an amazing big sister to Cake Pop and is usually very helpful with her and other things around the house. Cake Pop is a very curious toddler. She is working on learning to talk now. Her most frequent utterance is "Mom Mom Mom". She also likes to say "dat" for cat, her sister's name, dog, and a few others. She is absolutely fascinated by cats and dogs. She wears cloth diapers(most of which I made myself), still nurses, and is rear facing in the car (I've included a video to illustrate why I feel this is important).

Recently we have been working on eating better. We began ordering a box of organic produce each week, as well as grain fed beef from a website. We used to eat out a whole lot. Last week Cupcake and I worked on a real life math problem. I was curious if the produce box was a good deal or not so we set out for the grocery store. We made a spreadsheet listing all of the items we received in our first produce box. We went around the produce section and wrote down the price for each item, both regular and organic when available. Many of the items were not available organic in the grocery store. When we got home we weighed all of our produce and set up equations to figure out how much each item would cost based on the grocery store's prices. Based on the regular prices for the items and the prices that were available for organic items we discovered the box we order is about $5 cheaper and definitely more convenient. I also like that it forces us to try new things and to use everything from the box before it spoils. I loved that Cupcake had to use multiplication with decimals, division, addition, subtraction, comparing numbers, and working with weights in lbs and ounces. Plus she learned about healthy eating and cooking.
Yesterday we were going to meet with a group of homeschoolers for the biweekly recess, but Cake Pop and I have been ill since the night before last, so we decided to stay home and rest a bit. Later we went out to lunch with my mom and then to the mall to walk around a little. Cupcake took a math test, she got a 71%, so we will need to work on those concepts some more.
Today I slept in my chair with Cake Pop while Cupcake started on her math lessons. She had to be at her Theater Competition practice by noon. While she was there Cake Pop and I got some more rest and I began to feel slightly better. After collecting Cupcake we went to the grocery store to pick up a few staple items. Cupcake was excited to use the self checkout. We then rushed over to Cupcake's very first piano lesson. She says she enjoyed it very much.
I really hope Cake Pop and I get well soon and that Cupcake does not fall ill.
